Paso Robles, CA – [March 5, 2025] – The California Mid-State Fair has announced the cancellation of all Poultry and Dairy Cattle shows for the 2025 fair in compliance with a statewide ban implemented by the California Department of Food and Agriculture (CDFA). The ban affects all poultry and dairy cattle exhibitions at California fairs due to the ongoing spread of H5N1 Avian Influenza.
As a result, the Poultry Show, including Market Broilers, Market Turkeys, and the Bird Show, as well as the Dairy Cattle Shows, will not take place in 2025. However, the Poultry Show Knowledge Bowl competition will proceed as scheduled, as it does not involve live birds.
The CDFA’s decision follows a significant outbreak of H5N1 Bird Flu across California. Since August 2024, over 700 dairy herds and 60 poultry flocks have been affected, prompting Governor Gavin Newsom to declare a state of emergency. The precautionary ban is intended to safeguard exhibitors, livestock, the broader agricultural community, and the public.
